We introduced Orca Yoga on Rawa Island in the middle of 2017, under the stewardship of resident yoga instructor, Emma Sparrow. Yoga is an ancient discipline, which – when practiced regularly – has been proven to improve certain physical functions of the body and to reduce stress, anxiety and depression.
Yoga and scuba diving
Interestingly, there are some clear crossovers between yoga and scuba diving. Yoga teaches awareness of the sound and sensation of the breath. During diving, such an awareness can produce more controlled, efficient breathing patterns. This can make you feel more relaxed, improve buoyancy and extend your dive time. Yoga also heightens the senses, allowing you to absorb the full wonder of each dive, without becoming distracted.
Of course, you don’t have to dive to enjoy yoga. Rawa Island is the perfect escape from everyday life stresses. Find your way to the holiday state of mind that little bit quicker by indulging in daily yoga classes. You deserve it!

About Emma Sparrow
Our on-site instructor, Emma Sparrow, is a vinyasa and pre-natal yoga instructor certified by Yoga Alliance. Emma did her vinyasa yoga training in Rishikesh in 2016, and followed this with pregnancy yoga teacher training in 2017, studying with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli.
Emma’s classes draw upon practices rooted in ancient hatha yoga traditions. These include pranayama (breathing exercises), asana(physical practice), meditative awareness, mudras (hand gestures), bandhas (energy locks), kirtan (chanting) and elements of yoga philosophy.
If that all sounds very serious, we always make sure each class is fun and relaxed. We want you to come away feeling nourished, energised and uplifted. We also offer different variations on the movements we teach. Everyone has the opportunity to listen to their own bodies and either rest or challenge themselves, depending on how they feel on the day.

“Yoga teaches us to get out of our heads and into our senses so we can experience life in a state of awareness. By starting with our bodies, breath and surroundings we can create an incredible sense of wellbeing in such a short period of time. That is the beauty of yoga – it is a window into a permanent way of life.” Emma Sparrow, Orca Yoga
